The parrot tulip is the most flamboyant and colourful of all tulips with curled and ruffled petals. Tulips were first cultivated in the Ottoman Empire (now Turkey) before being exported to the Netherlands in the 16th century where their popularity fuelled a futures craze that ended badly for investors.

This beautiful example displays white ruffled petals that are tinged with green and bear at least some resemblance to angel wings.
